That doesn't help us that much. It tells us a lot about the TeX
version, but nothing about teTeX. What does dpkg -l "tetex*" tell
you? I it's not 1.0.7 your statement that the xdvi version is xx.40f
can't be right, except you messed up with the package system.
Anyway, as Frank already pointed out it is probably a perl bug. We
should reassign it.
