Hey all,

Just thought I'd share some of my recent experiences with doing a fresh install of debian - testing.

What I normally do when setting up a fresh install is to plug the disk into a removable hdd tray that I have but this time I used a usb - ide interface instead which didn't effect anything except for speed - usb 1.1 controller.

FIrst question (maybe I missed something); why don't you use the
unofficial testing CDroms?

It's just what I've become accustomed to, I've used this method to install on machines without cdrom drives and cross platform (upto chroot) and ...

It's also the fastest way I know of, because your running on a system that already has X, networking, dma (and a debain cache, in this case) even if the target system is going to need a custom kernel build and if you look at it that way the only round about thing about it is the grub install which I'm sure there is an answer for!

Anyways that wasn't the point of the email, the point was to share my experience and more importantly point out that installing udev early can lead to some insteresting "challenges" which some others may trip over in the future :)
