I had similar problems with the 2.4 kernel Sarge installs by default. It
simply will not recognize ANY mouse on my P Series Lifebook (P-2120).
Upgrading to the 2.6.8 kernel resolved the problem. Maybe your issue is
similar; it's worth a try.
