My guesses are these:
- I had such problems with bad RAMs. I even could reproduce the crashes
by running some applications in a certain order. Try to slow down memory
access timings, and so on
- Perhaps the graphics card's driver? Not all windows manager use the
same xwindows features. What kind of graphics card do you have?

I'm just wondering what would be reason for following crash. I try to
build openmap-4.4.2 with jakarta-ant-1.4.1. I'm running woody
2.4.17-bf2.4 with sun j2sdk1.4.0 and under kde 2.2.2 system always
crash after about 7 minutes of building. My computer is 200 MHz pentium
2 with 98 MB memory.
However, without KDE, under text mode build works well and complete.
Same phenomena happends also with one globus 2.0 package. Works in
console mode, but OS crash, if try to build under KDE.
