AIUI, the goal of Debian Science is to improve support for science in
Debian. People differ in their priorities, but some things that I
think are important are:

Packaging a wide range of useful software with high quality
  - Making sure these packages don't become out of date
  - Fixing bugs

Advertising/Documenting what software is available and what problems
it solves - and perhaps how to use several packages
together. Personally I think we should also steer people away from
obsolete software.

Producing a LiveDVD of science packages

The tasks infrastructure is a way of easily installing packages
appropriate to a particular area of science. It also serves to
advertise that debian provides those packages.

The bugs pages will make it easier to spot if a maintainer has gone
MIA/is in need of help by highlighting bugs in a particular area. It
also makes it easier for Non DDs and those with limited time to find
bugs that they can help with.

Ah yes, that reminds me - I've added some text to the "Contributing to
Debian Science" on the wiki <http://wiki.debian.org/DebianScience>
with suggestions about how DDs and non debian developers can help. I'm
not sure I link sufficiently well to the "Efforts that could be
undertaken".

Comments please - either here, or by editing the wiki. Am I repeating
something that is described elsewhere? What have I missed?

Adding new packages to appropriate tasks. Removing obsolete packages.
