I have an EMU10K1 soundcard with onboard synth and MIDI works with kmid
and other applications, but "Test MIDI" in the KDE control centre
produces no sound. What is the "Test MIDI" supposed to do and how might
I track down what it is doing?

when running kcontrol from the command line and running "Test MIDI"
twice, I saw the following output to stdout:

strace -okcontrol.tmp kcontrol
amarsh04@victoria:~$ okay
server status: suspended
real-time status: real-time
server buffer time: 46.4399 ms
buffer size multiplier: 1
minimum stream buffer time: 46.4399 ms
auto suspend time: 10 s
audio method: alsa
sampling rate: 44100
channels: 2
sample size: 16 bits
duplex: full
device: default
fragments: 2
fragment size: 4096

The only output that seemed interesting from strace was:

access("/usr/lib/qt3/plugins", F_OK) = 0
access("/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/codecs/.", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file
or directory)

Does this mean that I need to install another package or packages for
this to work?

Regards,

Arthur.

Hi,

The Debian Qt/KDE team is trying to update the bug status of some old
bugs in the BTS, and I'm helping with this task.

Some time ago, you've reported bug number 382790 "kdebase: Control
Centre "Test MIDI" does nothing but other MIDI apps work fine" to
Debian's Bug Tracking System. You can read the bug report at:

     http://bugs.debian.org/382790

We are sorry if nobody responded when you filed the bug, KDE has
gotten more bugs in the past years than the maintainers could handle.
The team is trying to fix this now, but we need your help. So please
respond to this mail and tell us if:

- you are still experiencing this bug (adding in what version)
- the bug was already fixed (if known, in which version),
- or if you have extra information on how reproduce this bug.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Olivier Vitrat
helper for the Debian Qt/KDE team
