- Subject: kcontrol (keyboard_layout): cannot activate compose key functionality

Package: kcontrol
Version: 4:3.2.2-1
Severity: normal
I go to the "Xkb options"*) tab in the keyboard_layout KControl module
and check the "Compose key" box and several subordinate boxes like "Use
menu key as compose key". After having pressed "Ok", all key presses
are ignored. (Or maybe only some key presses are ignored or key presses
are ignored only in certain situations. I don't remember exactly and I
don't want to try it right now, since I probably wouldn't be able to
finish this bug report then. :-))
After restarting KDE, the keyboard works again but no key is used as a
compose key. So the keyboard works exactly the way it had before when
no compose-key-related checkbox was checked.
If I enter
setxkbmap -option compose:ralt
or
setxkbmap -option compose:menu
manually in Konsole while KDE is running, the respective keys work as
compose keys. However, if I enter
setxkbmap -option compose:rwin
and press the right Windows key afterwards, I'm not able to enter
anything on the current Konsole anymore. If I switch to another running
Konsole, I'm able to enter characters and if I switch back to the first
Konsole, entering characters works again.
If I don't have KDE running, I'm also able to make the right Windows key
a compse key via directly using setxkbmap.
*) I use German localization. Throughout this whole bug report I will
translate the German texts back into English. The original English
texts might differ.
