Bug#398236: Bug#405352: ttf-arphic-uming: Breaks anti-aliasing in Qt applications

Hi,

Quoting this all and copying to the bug on libqt4-gui: 398236.

I don't think that would do justice to the problems it causes: it
influences all fonts <= 16pt in Qt apps, it seems. I have no idea why
only in Qt apps, though.
My guess is, that QT ignores fontconfig settings...
Still, just removing this particular package fixed the problems.

That's the symptom, not the cause!

I still insist, that the problem lies in QT4 handling of TTFs which
contain embedded bitmap glyphs.
Other applications don't have this problem. And for me as a font
developer, there is not much I can do about this issue except to remove
the bitmap glyphs from the font. And that won't happen! Because CJK
users need them.

So, please, if you have a problem with QT4, contact Trolltech about this
issue and let them test. This is definitely not a font issue, but a
library issue.

I filed a bug report already on the Qt4 package, as you can see above. Maybe you want to close this one and only refer to that one, instead. Do note that only Qt4 applications suffer from this problem. It started when Qt 4.2 entered testing for me.
