Since the povray metapackage transition to povay-3.6, kpovmodeller fails to 
render anything. It spits out an error: "povray exited abnormaly". The povray 
output states: "povray: cannot open the user configuration file 
/home/acidman/.povray/3.6/povray.conf: No such file or directory".

But I have no idea what I should configure there.

This is fixed, povray was to blame for this. The cause was #348399,
which was fixed with povray-3.6.1-4 . I could have merged these bugs but
since it is fixed with the latest povray I see no advantage in doing so,
hence I only close this report here.
