Package: kdebase
Version: 4:3.5.0-4
Severity: important

Hi!

I just upgraded to the kde*-3.5.0-4 packages from unstable. Previously I
was using the kde*-3.5.0-1 packages from Alioth. With the 3.5.0-1
packages, the device icons on the desktop work as expected: No icons are
displayed when nothing is connected to the system, and when I either
insert a CD or attach a USB drive I get the corresponding icon and a
dialog which prompts me whether I want to open a file browser for the
newly attached device, etc. This is the expected behaviour.

With the 3.5.0-4 packages, I'm seeing the following behaviour: I have a
CD icon on my desktop, even when no CD is in the drive. What is worse, I
get no new icons when attaching a USB drive, and thus am unable to
access the data (becoming root and mounting the drive manually does
work). In neither case do I get the dialog asking what to do with the
newly detected medium.

As the changelog mentions several changes related to dbus, hal and USB,
I assume that one of the changes breaks the device icons.

Thanks for looking into this,

   Georg

If this is still a problem for you, let us know, but otherwise the
latest dbus/hal should have resolved this issue.

Cheers,
Christopher Martin
