With a current Konqueror 3.5.1 from testing, newfriday.org renders correctly with the TM sign. The fact that it rendered the TM sign as a black box also rather indicates that the font doesn't have this sign or that it doesn't have it in the proper size, not so much that Konqueror can't handle the sign.
