Out of curiosity, what does "fr_FR.UTF-8@euro" give you that
"fr_FR.UTF-8" does not? (e.g., what applications behave different,
etc.)
Because:
% sudo locale-gen | grep fr
fr_FR.UTF-8... done
fr_FR.UTF-8@euro... done
% env LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8 locale charmap currency_symbol
UTF-8
€
% env LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8@euro locale charmap currency_symbol
UTF-8
