The problem with creating kdelibs3 metapackage, is that it leaves kde2
packages depending on kdelibs3 still on the system. And unsuprinsgly
they will no longer work, since the actual libs are gone...

Did you check if packages depending on kdelibs3 where still installed
on the system after upgrade?
