Ok, it became a bit better with latest kde packages. But I still got the same 
problem when our intranet is not connected to the inernet and konqueror is 
used the first time since the last boot. it seems either konqueror or more 
probably one of its libraries is trying to connect to a resource from the 
internet, even if I just want to access a webpage from an intranet webserver. 
And if our intranet's router is not connected to the internet at this point, 
it causes konqueror to hang forever with my regular system user.

I created a fresh system user and retried to access our intranet webserver 
while not being connected to the internet and fortunately it works. but it 
takes 10 seconds or so for each webpage to be shown. I guess this must be an 
internal time out and if it can't reach the resource from the internet within 
this time, konqueror finally displays the website.

Suggestions?
