I've installed gnome from experimental & abiword is no longer able to
hightlight text (ie click & drag over some text -- I expect the text
to be highlighted with inverse video). The code still works -- you can
cut and paste the 'invisibly' highlighted text, but no visible change
occurs onscreen.

  this is fixed since some time ago.
