Hijacking / adopting ascii?

Dear QA team,

I seek permission to adopt the package "ascii" without having recieved
positive feedback from the current maintainer as listed in the PTS
(CCed), please see <http://packages.qa.debian.org/ascii>.

Rationale:
The package is more than two years behind upstream and hasn't seen any
bug handling for almost three years. I provided a complete update in
form of a new .diff.gz which went completely unnoted, so I announced
my ITH in the BTS. The maintainer didn't agree and claimed he'd be
uploading "RSN", but three weeks have passed since without any action
being taken. A more complete fact sheet about this maintainership can
be found in <http://bugs.debian.org/199150>.
The almost complete lack of maintainer activity strikes me as odd, for
the maintainer lists "deb package development" as one of his computer
skills in his resume.

If you deem this hijack acceptable I'll transfer this to d-mentors, as
I'd need sponsoring for any upload, please see
<http://nm.debian.org/nmstatus.php?email=florian_ernst%40gmx.net> and
<http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?gpg_key=514B3E7C> for
further info about Debian and me.
If I may hijack and someone is interested in sponsoring: my current
state of packaging (pbuilder / lintian / linda clean) can be found at
<http://ernst.uni-hd.de/debian/ascii>.

Sorry for the noise, but I think the current state of that package is
simply unacceptable.

Thanks for taking the time,
cheers,
Flo
