The line "pre-up /usr/sbin/ifconfig eth0 up" in /etc/network/interfaces
is not inserted by pppoeconf. Therefore, the network will be down at boot.
In my second system (Sarge) pppoeconf make that properly.

Furthermore, if pppoeconf will be used a second time, a redundant "auto eth0" part
will be inserted in /etc/network/interfaces - rendering the file unusable for
the startscripts. Similar to the first problem, this occures only in sid and
not in sarge.

Hi,
the code inserting the pre-up line was commented by Eduard intentionally. I don't think it is needed to get the network up at boot, as long as your dsl-provider is auto. If pppoeconf doesn't configure properly interfaces to get your DSL connection up at boot after applying the (first) patch for #334361, please reopen.
The rest is already reported in #334361.
