Re: A Debian column on OMG! Ubuntu!

Hi Raphael,

From our perspective, it would probably be best to have an article at least once a week - but to be honest, we'd just be happy to leave the Debian writer(s) to do what they wanted as time permitted.

tutorials, explanations about the differences between Debian/Ubuntu,
etc."

I think, as Adnan already said, stuff like basic news etc. can usually be found on Planet Debian and in Mailing Lists, which most people who would be interested in Debian will already be subscribed to.

In saying that, I really think this is an excellent opportunity to show off Debian to the people who aren't already interested. Hence I think it would be a good idea to have a nice mixture of news and editorials. I think the editorials could be quite interesting, whether relevant to community stuff at the time or also one-off articles in the vein of Stefano's Linux.conf.au talk entitled "Who the bloody hell cares about Debian?"

As I said above, we would welcome the Debian people to do whatever they liked on the site. I know for a fact that if we announce a Debian column, any articles you produce would certainly be read.

So by all means, you could use this means of communication to announce new projects or incentives and attract contributors or feedback, you could use it to announce widespread testing or changes in the Debian project. You could write articles, opinion pieces on why Debian is important, or perhaps some interesting statistics on how much Debian influences Ubuntu (maybe package counts etc).

I hope this helps!

I think it's a great idea. But can you tell us a bit more about your
expectations?

How often should this column come out?

What sort of content do you expect? Important news, development news,
tutorials, explanations about the differences between Debian/Ubuntu,
etc.

Cheers,
