There are several pending issues with USB and sleep, we've been working
with the USB maintainers to get them fixed. There are patches avaible
(search for Colin Leroy message on the subject, he has links) that
improve the situation and fix your second issue. Though even with those
patches, I have personally experienced crashes on sleep/wakeup when I
have USB involved, so I still disconnect everything before sleep.
