How so? (There's no 'alternative magic', do you mean the diversion?) You
can

      * use XFree86.nodri-trunk
      * ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/fbdev_drv.o
        /usr/X11R6/lib/modules-dri-trunk/drivers/
      * ...
