Problems with locales

Hi there,

I use Sid on my iBook G4.
I am trying to write a gdesklet to monitor the cpu temperature, and I have
a problem with the output of

cat /sys/devices/temperatures/cpu_temperature

Now, I have set the locale to UTF, but still I get this

$ cat /sys/devices/temperatures/cpu_temperature
50[]C

Anybody have a good hint for me?

I set the locale using dpkg-reconfigure locales.
