well, you might put the link for the networking-script from rcS into
your active runlevel(s), somewhere behind hotplug, like S12networking in
/etc/rc2.d/. you might use update-rc.d for that. ok, this is just nasty.
otherwise you might hack on /etc/init.d/hotplug and perhaps disable the
checks for rcS.
