Sleep in X on pismo

I've been meaning to ask the list this for a month or so now, but a
while ago after an apt-get dist-upgrade on my Pismo running testing, it
no longer sleeps in X.  Or rather, it sleeps, but when it wakes up the
screen comes back but it won't accept any input except turning off or
rebooting.  

The powerbook still sleeps in console mode, but I've noticed that now
the backlight goes off, then on, then off again before it starts to
sleep.

Any help would be appreciated.
