A cable modem, the machine gets its address via dhcp...

Oh, in the month or so since I last logged in via the cable modem, the 
IP address changed, but the machine name didn't (since the cable company 
puts the hardware address in the machine name), and AFAIK the key 
didn't.  Could that be part of the problem -- does sshd keep track of 
hostnames, IPs and keys?
