I have been to the site frequently and that is how I got the kernel patch to work. So I can finally see text on my consoles. Yea!
But X has been another problem. I tried 4.0.2 with the patches as described at that site and got the exact same error as I do now with 4.1. I read in the changelogs that 4.1 is supposed to have been endian-patched.
PS I can also send you my XF86Config-4 file, separately, if anyone thinks it might be useful...
