openoffice.org 1.1beta2-2: no cache available

Due to bug no 189944 (tagged unreproduceable now) I reported, I'm trying to 
run OOo 1.1beta2.

After installation, I run "ooffice1.1" at the command line for the first time. 
After reporting setup complete, it lauches openoffice.org. Then an empty 
window appears with the following info window

OpenOffice.org cannot be started due to an error in accessing the 
OpenOffice.org configuration data.

Please contact your system administrator.

The following internal error has occurred: GetStorage, name: 
'file:///home/bruce/.openoffice/1.1/user/config/soffice.cfg'OProviderImpl: No 
cache available - provider was already disposed.

Indeed, there is no such file as "soffice.cfg" in my local directory.
