I have worked with Hans in various local Debian capacties, such as
Debconf 10 organizing, novice nights, workshops, and bug squashing
parties. He is not just a valuable member of the local Debian community,
in helping events happen, technically and socially, but he also has
helped build bridges with other like-minded local communities, such as
NYC Resistor and Eyebeam. Its clear that Hans has a deep commitment to
principles of free software and Debian and has the technical skills to
be a positive addition to the project.

Although I have not worked directly with Hans on packaging, I have
talked with him about packaging issues during bug squashing parties and
workshops, and he has demonstrated clear knowledge of the
subject. However, I think his packages speak for themselves and those he
has worked with have already spoken about his skills here.

I would be happy to advocate Hans to become a Debian Maintainer.
