Let's test if its a version 4 or greater key
Key is ok
Applicant writes:
I'm a 21 years old student in Mathematics and Computer Science living
in Paris.
I've had my first touch with Free Software back in High School, but
the slow modem connection and the little knowledge of computers
resulted in a broken ( I still can't understand what happened ) trying
to install an old Red-Hat a friend's (long-haird and bearded) father
gave me. This had a simple result in my father not allowing me to
show up in a 5 meters perimeter around the computer.
The next touch I had with Free Software was wile staying at a friends
house during my first prep' school year. There were 2 computers, One
with Counter-Strike, that my friend was monopolizing and an old p166
were his brother had installed a wired Operating System that was going
by the code-name 'Potato'. God bless Counter-Strike, thanks to this
stupid games I could discover the distribution I had to fall totally
in love with. After a few days of harassing his brother, I got the
root password and started to play with apt, removing /usr by
inadvertence, and doing all the funny stuff that make us wish the
nights could be longer.
I was really impressed by the community thing, the guys helping you
( or mocking you, but that take loads of time also ) on IRC or on
Mailing Lists, the silent-guys-in-the-dark that run the mirrors, all
the code freely available, readable and hackable ! I definitively
wanted to be part of that ( yeah, at first to be the guy that mocked
the others on irc, sure ). And seduced by the integrity of the Debian
model, the democracy that was it's base, and the quality that this way
of thinking software gave.
So after a year of buzzing on #debian-fr@irc.debian.org I wanted to
do, something for the project, as at this time I didn't feel ready for
applying, I decided to help by sharing my experience with other users,
so I took my best box and dropped it on the Debian booth of the Linux
Expo Paris 2003[1].=20
( you can see the box on this[2] photo, yes, the one with the
all-painted-screen that's hiding the spiral on the side, and for the
record we brought the box in the underground from my place with a
friend. )
On the next year, I started to look some docs on packaging, on the new
maintainer process and stuff, but didn't feel ready still as I thought
I had to learn at least perl, C to make a good maintainer, so I
started learning. So I did what I knew for the project, I went to the
Debian Booth at Linux Expo Paris 2004 ( that year I only had my laptop
).
And Finally, I started packaging, subscribed to debian-devel, and
seeked for a sponsor, found 2, taken a package a friend couldn't
maintain anymore, and of course, went to the Debian Both at Linux Expo
Paris 2005, where I could proudly ask all the DD I ran into to sign my
key so that I can apply.=20
And, there am I, I've got 2 packages in main (1 in testing/unstable,
1 in unstable) and 1 waiting in NEW. ( and 2 ready for upload to my
sponsors as soon as I check a licence Issue ).
My main motivation in joining Debian is to make this distribution
better every day by providing
up-to-date-and-bug-free-but-still-user-friendly-and-easy-to-install
packages of all the cool software out there, and closing bugs so that
we all can use the software as we want to. This maybe classic, but
my objective is to make sure Debian will always be the world-leading
distribution.
2. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Niv has a good understanding of Debians Philosophy and
Procedures. He answered all my Questions about Social Contract,
DFSG, BTS etc. in a good way.
3. Tasks and Skills
-------------------
Niv is Maintainer of glurp, skippy, lingot and grkellmdk, all Packages
in Debian (sponsored by Steve Kemp).
He also answered my other Questions regarding T&S without problems.
4. Recommendation
-----------------
I recommend to accept Nix as a Debian Developer.
