Thanks for the help.
I successfully uploaded my package to mentors, and added my public key to my account as well. I had uploaded the key to
subkeys.pgp.net, which I found in one of the messages from this mailing list. After looking to my account in mentors website, I saw that my GPG key was not there, so I uploaded using the website.
What would be the next step for me now? I am reading about the sponsorship, and since this is a python package, I am trying to join the Python Applications Packaging Team, but I am not sure if that is the right way to proceed.
Please advise.

You need to upload on mentors.
Create a .dput.cf inside your home:
--------------8<---------------------------------------------
[mentors]
fqdn = mentors.debian.net
incoming = /upload
method = http
allow_unsigned_uploads = 0
progress_indicator = 2
# Allow uploads for UNRELEASED packages
allowed_distributions = .*
--------------8<---------------------------------------------
And use it with:
$ dput mentors ../<what_you_want>.changes
You need an account on mentors website and to upload your key.
