and arch:any package is build on every architecture supported by
debian (and if so, binary-indep might be wrong). What

$ dpkg-architecture

returns to you? I bet i386, hence your resulting binary package is the
version for i386.

And I'm pretty sure there is some doc about things like this.... ;)
