I didn't notice this the first time because the formatting of your
email was so dense and difficult to read (use more paragraph breaks,
point form, etc.) so it was rather buried ...|

-a is for architecture. i486 and i686 are not valid architectures! i386 and amd64 are examples of architectures. "486" and "686" are linux kernel flavours.
