The former is DFSG-free in the first place, the latter can be made
DFSG-free (by stripping all trademark instances, a part from the name)
but is non-free (before the `operation').
Is that what you mean?
With this in mind, I would say Debian wants to stay in the former kind
of trademark encumbered works...
Thus, no trademarked logos in main or contrib, right?
Only the name "Debian", so that it's reasonably easy to derive, say,
Ubuntu without infringing SPI trademark rights...
