[ CC to debian-legal, Middleman ITP is bug #231953 ] Hello, middleman can't be accepted into Debian because of license conflicts. Your software is licensed under GPL, but must be linked with OpenSSL. OpenSSL is not GPL licensed but under an Apache-style licence [1], and so, unfortunately, the GPL and the OpenSSL license are incompatible [2]. There is two possible solutions to solve this problem: - your software must be rewritten to use GNUTLS instead of OpenSSL, - or, your license must add an exception to the GPL which allows linking with OpenSSL. The second solution has been choosen for the hpoj Debian package [3] (and maybe others), and what I write below is totally inspired from what has been done for the hpoj package. 1. Add the attached LICENSE file to your code. This file tells that your code is GPL, with an exception which allows linking with OpenSSL. Here is the text of the exception: *** In addition, as a special exception, the copyright holders give permission to link the code of portions of this program with the OpenSSL library under certain conditions as described in each individual source file, and distribute linked combinations including the two.
