RAM upgrade?

Hi Debian,
 i would like to upgrade the RAM of my Acer Travelmate 8005 running 
with Sid: is there a linux program to see what kind of RAM is it 
installed (PC2700, PC3200??) ? Is it possible to install two modules 
with different size, like 512+256 MB?
