Well, I have 2.4.18 and an i8000, and it works. (Also as said elsewhere
the order is no longer important in 2.4.18.)

In my BIOS I have (don't you just love pressing Fn-F1 in the middle of
everything to check your BIOS settings ?) FastIR and COM4. I have found
those to be good options, however I'm not sure exactly how they affect
the irda settings.

Have you by any chance got anything extra in /etc/serial.conf such as a
reference to anything but ttyS0?

Also, what does your irattach command look like (ie. what does
/etc/irda.conf look like?)?

Cheers,
fabbe
