I also experienced the same problem on my Toshiba Satellite 5100. Removing
gpm solved it. I never managed to have the mouse working properly in X and
for virtual consoles at the same time.

By the way, the drag-and-drop function does not work, neither for the
cPad nor for a USB whell-mouse - probably I did not set the 3 buttons
emulation right. My Laptop is at home right now, so I can't access the
XF86Config-4 file. Anyone has the same problem?
