Although I personally use Evolution, I have to reckon that is horribly
heavy, it takes its time to load. I'm using it on a k7-700 with 384 mb
ram on a desktop ... so you can imagine.
In my laptop I use pine, only because I'm ssh'ing my home machine O:-)

I have many win***** ttf fonts loaded, so I suppose that's why I see all
fonts quite correctly. No problem with evolution.
Anyway, why don't you try sylpheed? Everybody sais it's quite light ...
