AFAIK Debian is composed of two names: Debbie and Ian[1].
So "Deb" is with a short "e" like in Debbie and "ian" is just pronounced
like the scottish (irish?) name Ian.
[1] Debbie and Ian Murdock were the founders of the Debian project.
