With 2.6.18-4 Debian switched from non-pae to pae-only xen kernels. This means
that xen is not useable anymore for many users, which were able to use
non-pae kernels without a problem for a long time till now.
In my opinion this is a critical issue, because it makes xen unusable for
about maybe 10-30% of all setups. Users with cpu's or mainbios/bios
combinations without pae support cannot use xen anymore, even every k7 user
will not be able to use xen anymore. The pae enabled 686 xen image will crash
on k7 boxes.
Dear debian-kernel-team, please rethink your position of pae-only xen kernels
and reupload at least a working k7 kernel image again. Just having pae
kernels in the archive is a very unwise decision. For me there is no
technical reason for not shipping standard images without pae...
Thanks,
Ralph

The other possible fix was to not ship them at all. No bug, closing.

No, it does not; proof by example.

You should read old bugs. There is a technical reason[1].
