Bug#379967: kernel: linux-image-2.6.16-2-486 randomly disconnects USB

Package: kernel
Severity: important

-- System Information:
Debian Release: testing/unstable
  APT prefers testing
  APT policy: (500, 'testing')
Architecture: i386 (i686)
Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash
Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-1-486
Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8)

Upgrade from linux-image-2.6.15-1-486 to linux-image-2.6.16-2-486
resulted in the kernel disconnecting USB at random times. The first
time was approximately 7 hours after booting into the new kernel. The
second time was approximately 24 hours after rebooting into the new
kernel. I then booted back into 2.6.15 and the problem did not occur in
the next 36 hours, duplicating over two months experience with 2.6.15
and more than 1 year of other 2.6 kernels with this exact hardware
configuration. I then booted back into the new kernel and USB was
disconnected after approximately 24 hours.

I'm not exactly sure what was running the first two times that the
kernel disconnected USB but the logs indicate my wife was downloading
mail in Evolution at about that time. The last time USB was
disconnected, I was running apt-get dist-upgrade and I think the system
was in the final step of setting up xclip.

This is the message from /var/log/messages

This is the output of cat /proc/bus/usb/devices when USB is running.

I have, or can generate other logs if needed. This machine is never
turned off so I am back in 2.6.15 to assure the UPS is functional.
