I have a question about this :

  How should we handle this if there was already a user set
  postinst_hook ? This has no chance of working, right ?

So, probably, the best solution would be to do it the right way, and
have the kernel-package provided postinst do the right thing and detect
the bootloader setup at installation time, and not at build time.
Anyway, the bootloader ops for prep and chrp are utterly broken right
now (wanting to install quik, which only works on oldworld pmac, i
guess).

The problem with doing it at install time is naturally that you loose
the capacity of depending on a bootloader though, unless we do a quik |
yaboot | mkvmlinuz | <nothing> kind of thing. Don't believe if <nothing>
is possible though.
