konqueror alphabets all over the place

In konqueror, if I hold the control key for a long time there arealphabets displayed all over the webpage. The letters are displayed insquare yellow boxes.

What are these alphabets? Are they useful in any way or is it a bug? Ifit is a feature, where is it documented?
