I've filed a bug report about this,
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102046.  I've also determined that
klauncher is the process that's hanging.  This is useful, because I don't
have to kill my whole login session to get past the hang; I just kill
klauncher.  This means that not all of my previous session gets restored,
but at least I can log in without having to rm -rf .kde; cp
-a .kde.bak .kde every time.
