IDNs in KDE 3.2

Hi,
One of the promoted highlights in KDE 3.2 was the support for international
domain names.
However, if I enter a IDN url in Konqueror, I only get:
"Invalid address
http://"
I am using the woody backport from download.kde.org.
Has anybody used IDNs in KDE3.2 already?
Maybe this is just a misconfiguration, any hints? (Yes, I set language
encoding to utf-8.)
If this is rather an upstream issue, please tell me where to ask.
TIA,
Elmar
