Home dir fills up with .font-cache files

Every time I log in to KDE my home dir gets a new file called .font-cache-nnnn 
with some number at nnnn. After a while this takes up quite a bit of space, 
and I didn't used to have those files.

Does anybody know why they are created, and if there is a way to stop them 
from being created?
