KDE3.x, gcc 3.2, debian unstable

I'm still using the official KDE2.2.2 on unstable. From recent
discussion on this list I take it that official KDE3 packages won't be
coming soon as they're waiting for the gcc 3.2 transition. There are,
of course, the (debian-)inofficial packages at

http://download.[country code].kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.0.4/Debian/sid/

I'd like to avoid upgrading to KDE3 twice, i.e., first to the currently
available packages and later to another, *substantially different*
(i.e. not counting a gcc 3.2 rebuild) version. I didn't follow, who
built the current packages and who's doing the official stuff. Are
these the same people?
