Now to some more on-topic answers;-)

If you say that other logins work fine there might be one problem I 
experience from time to time: Disk's full (although df claims that there's 
enough of it...). So start deleting your apt-cache (/var/cache/apt/archive or 
so; or there's a special command...) or other files that are located on your 
home-dir. Good luck! (Tell me when it's NOT workin' I can think about it in 
more detail in two days when my technical-informathics-test is over...)
