Did maybe happen something to the gpm package, i.e. was it installed
before, and uninstalled after (or the other way round?)
Can you give us your content of Section "Pointer" in
/etc/X11/XF86Config, the location of your /dev/mouse symlink (if
possible: both before and after the kde installation, but "after" will
probably be good enough), and tell us what type of mouse it is?
