Here it does not give anything, not even a question mark.
How do I have to enable this in X? (What keyboard layout?)

The support for Euro even in  Woody is not too good by default. iso-8859-15 
should be a default for America and most of Europe or maybe Unicode would be 
better.
Why isn't it so??? ASCII lacks so much and is really ancient for a default 
(just as the 8bit-clean turned off by default in VC :-(( ). Those that only 
use ascii chars would not see the difference anyway. *grrr*
