I am having _exactly_ the same problem. Try starting kcontrol in a konsole
window and then watch the debug messages when you click on "Choose Font".
Lots and lots of "cannot create struct for <fontmane>" or something like
that scroll past.
I think it's a broken TT font, or, a font that freetype cannot handle for
some reason - if you figure out what it is, PLEASE share it.
btw, there are lots of bug reports regarding this, but I haven't found a
solution yet. And it happens only when you have anti aliasing turned on.
